Good Evening Art Fans, What a fun couple of weeks it has been! I'll do my best to hit the highlights about recent happenings as well as those that are coming up soon. Here we go!!! On Saturday 7/15, I attended Ardest Gallery's "Abstraction" opening reception. It really was my intention to slip in quietly, check out the show and leave. But, I ended up meeting the nicest people, having some laughs, great conversations and, well, I couldn't resist taking a few photos before I left. If you weren't there, here's a sliver of what you missed. (Click the photos for links to 2 of the artists personal web pages.) The middle of last week saw me doing something I've never done before. Conroe Art League hosts figure drawing and portrait painting groups several times a month. So, just for grins and giggles (and 50.00) I offered to be one of their models. This group looks for all kinds of body types, but since they need models to hold poses for up to 20 minutes over the course of a 3 hour period, folks with experience in yoga, dance and similar disciplines are preferred. (That's me!) It was a real joy to hang out with these artists while I offered a variety of yoga, Thai Chi and a couple of sitting poses. Doing what I enjoy while the artists do what we all love. How fun is that? The only way it could have been better would have been if I brought my pets...but you can't have everything! ;-P If you are interested in joining this group or being one of their models, contact Vickie Nash: [email protected] / 713-249-2956 When the modeling was over I took a photo of myself with the group. Then I took individual photos of each of their sketches. What I find most interesting is how each artist has a completely different take on the exact same subject matter. Isn't that cool? (See below.) Hey, BTW, remember that little drawing I started right before I participated in CAL's Artists in Action? Well, I finished it. Let me know what you think about it (or anything at all) in the comments box at the bottom of this blog post! Art always looks better in person, so before I wrap this up I want to post some upcoming events. Get out there, look at art and have some fun! :-D

Northwoods Unitarian Universalist Church 1370 North Millbend Drive The Woodlands, TX 77380 Saturday, August 12 / 6 - 7:30pm Local Artists' Show - Opening Reception Sadly, I can not link to the church's website this time because some meanie hacked them. But, I can assure you that there will be beautiful artwork in the form of wall art, ceramics, jewelry and more! A concert will follow at 7:30p. Call Northwoods for more details: 281-298-2780 Good Evening Friends, If you were not able to make the Artists in Action demo last Friday or Conroe Art League's opening reception the following Saturday, feel free to drop by 127 Simonton Street in Conroe, TX to see our July show. The gallery is open every Tuesday through Saturday from 11:00a. - 4:00p. But, just in case you're not sure about making the drive, here's a link so you can view the ENTIRE SHOW (62 photos in all!) online: https://conroeartleague.com/Now-Showing However, this is more of a tease because art always looks better in person. Plus, the gallery itself is beautiful and in the heart of downtown Conroe. If you haven't been to Conroe lately, you will be amazed by how much there is to see and do. Check it out! In other news... There's a gallery that recently moved to The Woodlands that will take your breath away. While we already have many with great artworks in our township, Ardest Gallery is, IMHO, a step up from the rest. This gallery is every bit as good as any gallery I have ever enjoyed in every major city I've visited. Not just in the U.S., but cities in 7 other countries. I'm just sayin', if you love contemporary fine art, you need to check them out. Here's the 411 on their next event: Ardest Gallery 25200 Grogan's Park Dr.The Woodlands, TX 777380 Saturday, July 15 / 4-8pm "Abstraction" Opening Reception Juror: Annette Palmer is an award winning, internationally collected artist and experienced Juror. She is currently a resident artist of Archway Gallery in Houston and widely published freelance art writer. Her own work explores distance, connectivity and forgotten means of communication, often within land and seascapes. Palmer is a graduate of the Edinburgh College of Art / Heriot Watt University, Scotland, UK. I recently had the pleasure of stopping by this gallery during one of their events. They featured a local artist reading from a book of children's poetry that she had illustrated. I'll post photos that I took during that event so you can get a small taste of the diversity and quality of the artworks that are featured at Ardest Gallery. I hope you enjoyed this blog post. There are no paid promotions here! And, while I do primarily write about what I am doing in the studio, I also like to share work that others are doing. Art is Life! It is to be shared and enjoyed by all.
If you have any comments, questions or suggestions, feel free to post them in the comments below or reach out to me via email: [email protected] Big Hugs to one and all! Good Afternoon Art Lovers!
