Art Happenings, Openings and Highlights

7/28/2023

Good Evening Art Fans,

What a fun couple of weeks it has been! I'll do my best to hit the highlights about recent happenings as well as those that are coming up soon. Here we go!!!

On Saturday 7/15, I attended Ardest Gallery's "Abstraction" opening reception. It really was my intention to slip in quietly, check out the show and leave. But, I ended up meeting the nicest people, having some laughs, great conversations and, well, I couldn't resist taking a few photos before I left. If you weren't there, here's a sliver of what you missed. (Click the photos for links to 2 of the artists personal web pages.)
The middle of last week saw me doing something I've never done before. Conroe Art League hosts figure drawing and portrait painting groups several times a month. So, just for grins and giggles (and 50.00) I offered to be one of their models. This group looks for all kinds of body types, but since they need models to hold poses for up to 20 minutes over the course of a 3 hour period, folks with experience in yoga, dance and similar disciplines are preferred. (That's me!) It was a real joy to hang out with these artists while I offered a variety of yoga, Thai Chi and a couple of sitting poses. Doing what I enjoy while the artists do what we all love. How fun is that? The only way it could have been better would have been if I brought my pets...but you can't have everything! ;-P

If you are interested in joining this group or being one of their models, contact Vickie Nash: [email protected] / 713-249-2956

When the modeling was over I took a photo of myself with the group. Then I took individual photos of each of their sketches. What I find most interesting is how each artist has a completely different take on the exact same subject matter. Isn't that cool? (See below.)
Hey, BTW, remember that little drawing I started right before I participated in CAL's Artists in Action? Well, I finished it. Let me know what you think about it (or anything at all) in the comments box at the bottom of this blog post!

Now Showing and Coming Soon...

Good Evening Friends,

If you were not able to make the Artists in Action demo last Friday or Conroe Art League's opening reception the following Saturday, feel free to drop by 127 Simonton Street in Conroe, TX to see our July show. The gallery is open every Tuesday through Saturday from 11:00a. - 4:00p. But, just in case you're not sure about making the drive, here's a link so you can view the ENTIRE SHOW (62 photos in all!) online:

https://conroeartleague.com/Now-Showing

However, this is more of a tease because art always looks better in person. Plus, the gallery itself is beautiful and in the heart of downtown Conroe. If you haven't been to Conroe lately, you will be amazed by how much there is to see and do. Check it out!

In other news...

There's a gallery that recently moved to The Woodlands that will take your breath away. While we already have many with great artworks in our township, Ardest Gallery is, IMHO, a step up from the rest. This gallery is every bit as good as any gallery I have ever enjoyed in every major city I've visited. Not just in the U.S., but cities in 7 other countries. I'm just sayin', if you love contemporary fine art, you need to check them out. Here's the 411 on their next event:

Ardest Gallery

The Woodlands, TX 777380
Saturday, July 15 / 4-8pm

"Abstraction" Opening Reception

Juror: Annette Palmer is an award winning, internationally collected artist and experienced Juror. She is currently a resident artist of Archway Gallery in Houston and widely published freelance art writer. Her own work explores distance, connectivity and forgotten means of communication, often within land and seascapes. Palmer is a graduate of the Edinburgh College of Art / Heriot Watt University, Scotland, UK.

I recently had the pleasure of stopping by this gallery during one of their events. They featured a local artist reading from a book of children's poetry that she had illustrated. I'll post photos that I took during that event so you can get a small taste of the diversity and quality of the artworks that are featured at Ardest Gallery.
I hope you enjoyed this blog post. There are no paid promotions here! And, while I do primarily write about what I am doing in the studio, I also like to share work that others are doing. Art is Life! It is to be shared and enjoyed by all.

If you have any comments, questions or suggestions, feel free to post them in the comments below or reach out to me via email: [email protected]

Big Hugs to one and all!

June Art Shows

Hi Art Lovers!

The Conroe Art League and Northwoods Unitarian Universalist Church both had their opening receptions last Saturday, June 10th. Sorry to say, I took no photos at either event. But, if you go to the Conroe Art League's website you will find photos of every single artwork that is hanging in the gallery right now. Five pieces of my art occupies 2 shelves in a cabinet in that show. I will submit my humble contribution below. I also have artwork at Northwoods in their Garden Room, but you'll have to travel there in person to see their current show. It's a nice church with great music during services held every Sunday at 10:30a. Hope to see you all there!

It may seem ridiculous, but I worked on this little piece of art (see below) for hours. I'm pretty happy with it, but I feel like it needs one more small addition. Will give it another look tomorrow and update if the spirit says so. Sweet dreams y'all!

Do it anyway...

I was struggling emotionally today, but sat down to make art, anyway. There's a lot of pressure to make decisions that are not easy to make. Doing what is right for someone else sometimes takes a toll. I need about a week off the computer and 10 powerwalks in a row. Since that's not happening right now I try to remember that...

Life is still beautiful and the world is still spinning.

I hope you enjoy these small works I created.

Peace.

Spend some time with this little drawing. I think you will enjoy it.

Lots of Love to all the caring, nurturing (and ass-kicking) Mom's out there. I had a nice day. Hope you all did, too.

I have several months worth of images that I have not yet uploaded. My apologies. Wearing too many hats and juggling a lot of responsibilities. But, until I have a little more time, I'll offer this image of a small drawing I completed a few minutes ago.

Today was a good day...

An art filled New Year...

I've been so busy making art and going to openings that I haven't had much time to take photos and even less time to post the few photos that I have. So sorry! It's been a great six weeks or so here at the beginning of 2023. Here are a few highlights...

January 5th found me gallery hopping. These photos are from Glade Gallery.
I also visited South Woodlands Gallery (see below).
South Woodlands Art Gallery (SWAG) has some of the nicest fine art in the area, IMHO. But, it confuses me a bit. It is located WEST of the Woodlands over in Oak Ridge North. I'm not sure where they got the name, but I really enjoy visiting their gallery...which also happens to be a collection of hair salons.

Yours truly at the first art opening of 2023: CAL 12 x 12. January 7, 2023.
.CAL 12x12 raised a lot of money for high school art students. It was very exciting to be a part of the show and humbling to be among so many talented artists.

The very next day I headed over to Bella Botega for their opening. They have one the first Sunday of every month. This venue has a wonderful collection of small studios and art galleries. I am not a part of that group (not yet, anyway), but very much enjoy chatting with the artists and seeing what they have created.
The photo below is just a teaser. I'm working on a series of tiny 3x3 landscapes. I have a bunch of these little guys and will show you more when I am further along.

The Woodlands Art League has an Art Journaling group that meets twice a month and I participated on January 11th. Sara Saravo took photos of our creations and was kind enough to share them with me. Enjoy!

The photos below are from the Conroe Art League's most recent opening Saturday, February 4th. I was floored by the quality and diversity of the artwork this month. Love, love, love being a member of this gallery. What a blessing!
I also participated in The Woodlands Art League's Hyatt House opening last Wednesday the 5th. Unfortunately, I did not get any photos, but I was able to upload some from another artist onto my facebook page which you can view here: https://www.facebook.com/STUTZStudiowerks/

And, last night was the artists reception at Northwoods Unitarian Universalist Church of which I have artwork on display. Sorry to say that I did not get a single photo. But, the artwork will be on display for the next 2 months, so you can stop by and enjoy it for awhile. Here's the link to their website: https://www.northwoodsuu.org/art-gallery/

Whew! What a great year it has been, so far. I can't wait to see what all of us artists will be up to the rest of the year!
