This edition of my blog covers a variety of art fun and several opportunities that most artist will not want to miss. So, let's jump right in where we left off last month...
I was a fortunate girl on Monday, May 12th. NINTEEN of our member artists delivered NINETY-SEVEN pieces of artwork and jewelry to the Brazosport Art League Art Shop! I had a fabulous time playing my Pandora collection on shuffle (loud!) as I locked the gallery doors and arranged every single piece of these beautiful creations into and onto our displays. So much variety. We have drawings, prints, paintings on feathers, paintings on silk, jewelry with gem stones, some with fused glass, bowls, plates, clay sculpture and so much more. Check out the photos below for a little taste of the goodies that await our guests...
Another perk of showing artwork and handmade jewelry in the Art Shop is our new artist showcase: Art Shop Artists in Action. Our last AS AIA was Friday, May 16th and it was a hit! This is a list of last month's featured artists:
Sherry Hall Shelton - portrait painting in oils
Fatima Evans - Japanese flower sculptures
Cynthia Grandjean - miniature acrylic paintings
Deb Coniff - chalk pastels
Sheryl Fisher - painting on bird feathers
The event was well attended and we received a lot of positive feedback including a nice photo op in the Brazosport Facts online. You can view photos from the event in the slideshow below. (If you cannot view the slideshow you made need to update your OS and/or browser.)

Last Friday 7/6 we welcomed talented Jones Creek native Deanna Eixman into BAL's Main Gallery with an opening reception. Deanna currently lives in the Texas Hill Country and some of her acrylic and oil paintings reflect that. But, she says her favorite subjects to capture on canvas are wild and domestic animals. Her passion shows because she does them extremely well.
You can catch Deanna's exhibit "Creations on Canvas" at the Brazosport Art League Gallery now through July 6th. I've posted a few highlights from the reception below. To view the photos full size, click each thumbnail to enlarge.
Saturday, June 7th saw a group of us meeting at LoveBirds Smoothie & Juice Bar in Lake Jackson for another Art Shop Coffee Shop Talk. This particular gathering was unusual for a couple of reasons. First, LoveBirds is technically not a coffee shop. But it is cozy, cute and delicious with a wide variety of beverages and other menu items to choose from. Second, our conversations usually meander around a variety of subjects art related. Last weekend the conversation right away went toward the business of selling art with us discussing POS and QR codes for a good while before moving on to other art business related topics. I was surprised, but also glad we were able to do a deep dive into a subject my Art Shop buddies are clearly interested in and which is near and dear to my heart. (It's important for artists to be able to keep doing what we do and we need sales to buy art supplies, right?) We hung out and chatted for a couple of hours while we enjoyed our smoothies, juices and snacks. Good company. The time flew!
Our next Art Shop Coffee Shop Talk with be Saturday, July 5th with location TBA. If you'd like to participate in these social artist get-togethers, let me know. We want our community to GROW!
